classrooms by two young gunmen. the bullets started flying late in the school day. officials putting the campus on the first police officers arriving within minutes. >> we did struggle with the suspects to take them into custody and they are in custody right now. >> reporter: inin all, n students were injured and taken to area hospitals where one later died. he may have attempted to tackle one of the shooters before police arrived. one mom says her daughter was in the classroom where it happened, but she's safe now. >> she called me and was hysterical and there had been a shooting. >> reporter: frantic parents desperate to find their kids. >> they heard the shootings and he ran out. and somebody had gotten hit in the shoulder. >> reporter: two male suspects. devon erickson and a minor who hasn't been identified taken into custody. >> both of the suspects we

qutico in virginia. al, good morning to you. >> good morning, guys. we'll get to why we're here. but let'se talk about our sever weather going on. take a look at what's been going on in houston. a really dangerous situation. massive flooding is occurring there because we're seeing storms kind of park themselves over houston and it's causing flooding. high water rescues are going on right now. and this is going to be continuing especially in the houston area over the next several days. here's what we're looking at right now. we've got severe thunderstorm watches for a good portion of texas. we've also got flash flood watches and warnings stretching from texas into arkansas, parts of misi and nebraska. and kansas. 32 million people at risk today. for especially strong storms, potential for tornadoes, hail, damaging winds. tomorrow 10 million people at risk for the same ind of weather in the lower and mid-mississippi river valleys. we're looking at a lot of rain coming out of this system.es cially down through the lower mississippi river and back

this morning, a bombshell report in "the new york times" is casting doubt on the president's self-proclaimed wealth. the tax information from decadre befo he was a candate indicating the real estate mogul spent at least ten years in the red reporting business loss totaling over $1 billion from 1985 to 1994. according to "the times" year after year mr. trump appears to have lost more money than nearly any otheriv indidual american taxpayer. he was able to avoid paying income taxesor eight of the ten years. nbc news has not independently verifiedhe t taxes. >> i really go by instinct and my gut feel.

ub and lyft drivers say they're going on strike today in several cities from coast to coast. in new york, it'll last two hours, in aanta 12hours, and los angeles and san diego some drivers might log off their apps for 24 hours. >> i just think that's bucrazy. they're trying to get that money. >> reporter: drivers want higher pay to make a bigger percentage of the fares charged to customers. >> uber is putting profit over peop. >> reporter: kevin regus says he has been driving with uber over years but his earnings have plunged while he continues to pay for his own gas, car maintenanc maintenance. the stre comes as uber prepares to start selling shares to the public later this week. it's being billed as one of the largest initial offerings in tech industry history valued at up to $91 billion. uber has not commented on today's strike but says, whether

realistic dreams. and it was given to me wha seems like a lifetime ago. ted and i met when i was in college. a lowly member of the student crew at our local pbs station in arizona. he was an on-air reporter. someone i looked up to. i really admired him. i thought he was such a good writer and such a good producer, so smart. >> she was a gofer, essentially. she could run the cameras, she was happy to do so whatever needed to be done. or at least she made you think she was. >> reporter: tv has changed a bit since our days back in arizona and ted stopped by for a behind the scenes look here. remember we had those big videotape decks that were connected to the camera and then i would run in the heat, try to catch up with you. the u of a has offered classes since the 1960s.

after mths of working behind the scenes, i convinced my bosses to give me a shot. i think i'd done a story and i showed it t him and started with a stanp which is when the reporter's on camera talking. and he said, you know, savannah, you should always start your story with your very best video. and if your very bests video i yourself, you're in trouble. again, the suspect is in custody. take this dog, for example, who will grace the olympic wheaties box? ipent the next five years climbing the ranks at local markets. then i was accepted into law school and i found myself at a crossroads. here i had this opportunity to go to georgetown law school which was my dream school. i wasfraid if quick tv news, what if i wanted to go back. so i went to ted. he looked at me in the eye and he said, savannah, think big. >> think big. don't limit yourself to the things that you know, you think may not be possible. what is it you want your life to

look like? >> reporter: he was giving me permission to have a huge ambitious and a huge dre for myself. and that was so foreigno t me. i grew up as the kind of person who didn't want to be too big for my britches. and here ted came along at this key moment i had to make a decision. and he said think big. i do remember you were the kind of teacher, you didn't suffer fools. so if there were peopl coming in thinking television news was like an acting job, you were not having that. >> right. i figured out of a class of 2 people, 5 people were, like, really on it and 5 people should have been kicked out t on first day. >> reporter: ted continued to work in levision, but years later found himself at a turning point of his own. >> i was thinking of going to law school. and i asked her and she just gave itht rigack to me.

science when she was growing up in michigan. as a kid were you intoex riments? >> yeah. my mom is an n.incredible wo i remember we had this he green bowl. she would let us up. shampoo and conditioner and soap in there, food colorin once. after that we were allowed food coloring. reporter: now her live demos have taken her to the classroom to the tvst io. with pops that have a purpose. >> when you're able to touch and feel and see it. a balloon of fire in your eyes, as a kid that has a huge impact. >> oh yeah. it's not thevisual. obviously it's the visual, don't ge me wrong. but when you are in the room, you smell it. so if you feel thet comes off, that can kind of invoke a way for them to make that memory that i can actually teach them.k >> repore hopes these reactions turn into passions.
